Bull Shoals Lake / White River Arkansas Travel Information
Bull Shoals Lake is located in the Ozark Mountain range in north
central Arkansas. Bull Shoals is a clear 45,000-acre lake with a
forested shoreline. Its tailwater the White River is Arkansas’ largest
river. In springtime, the lake and river are framed by flowering
dogwood and redbud trees, in fall, turning leaves provide a colorful
display. The lake is a popular spot for water sports and
houseboating. The coves and inlets that make up the 1,000-mile
shoreline offer many quiet hideaways. The size of the lake allows
plenty of room for recreational boating, water skiing and sailing.
Clear water makes it ideal for scuba diving. Eleven marinas sell
supplies and rent houseboats and pontoons. Visitors can launch boats
at 22 ramps and parks around the lake provide camping, picnicking,
swimming and hiking opportunities. Bull Shoals and the White
River are both record-holding fishing venues. Bull Shoals offers bass,
panfish and walleye. The White River has been called America’s best
trout river and is open for fishing year round. Fishing guides,
outfitters and resorts serve the anglers who come to float and catch
brown, rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout. Bull Shoals Lake and
the White River are located 170 miles north of Little Rock and 15
miles west of Mountain Home. They are accessible via State Highways
5, 7, 14 and 125. Resorts, cabins, lodges and motels are plentiful
around the lake and river area and in Mountain Home.
