  • Arkansas River Valley

In middle-eastern Arkansas, the Arkansas River sits between the Ozark and Ouachita Mountain ranges. This area is named the Tri-Peaks region after three major peaks: Mount Magazine, Mount Nebo and Petit Jean Mountain. These peaks, along with forests, rivers, streams and wineries, make this area a popular outdoor adventure and scenic driving destination. Outdoor adventure possibilities are plenty. State parks on each of the tri-peaks offer camping, hiking and scenic overlooks, as well as mountain climbing, rappelling and hang gliding.

  • Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs, population 2,000, is an Ozark Mountains resort town with a European feel. The city became a premiere relaxation resort in the late 19th century when people visited the area seeking restorative water from the "Great Healing Spring." Most of the original Victorian architecture from this time is preserved and the entire downtown commercial district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A large musical, artistic and writing community adds an eclectic feel to the city.

  • Fort Smith

Fort Smith is a river city of 82,000 with a historical heart. Established in the 1800s, Fort Smith served as a U.S. Army frontier fort playing key roles in westward expansion, Wild West justice, the Civil War and The Trail of Tears. This historic past takes front stage at museums, festivals and events in Fort Smith. Fort Smith is an excellent starting point for Ozarks and Arkansas River Valley trips. A 70-mile journey through the Ozarks on the Arkansas and Missouri Railway's authentic 19th century passenger railway car provides outstanding views especially in fall. Scenic drives, white-water rafting, canoeing, fishing, camping and hiking are available a short drive from the city.
