  • Arkansas River Valley

In middle-eastern Arkansas, the Arkansas River sits between the Ozark and Ouachita Mountain ranges. This area is named the Tri-Peaks region after three major peaks: Mount Magazine, Mount Nebo and Petit Jean Mountain. These peaks, along with forests, rivers, streams and wineries, make this area a popular outdoor adventure and scenic driving destination. Outdoor adventure possibilities are plenty. State parks on each of the tri-peaks offer camping, hiking and scenic overlooks, as well as mountain climbing, rappelling and hang gliding.

  • Diamond Lakes

The five Diamond Lakes, Ouchita, DeGray, Greeson, Hamilton and Catherine, together provide more than 57,000 acres of sparkling clear water entertainment. The lakes are all located within 40 minutes of Hot Springs in the western part of Arkansas. All the lakes offer fishing with bass and crappie as the main catch. The clean, clear water of these lakes attracts scuba divers. The openness of the lakes makes them ideal for boating and other water sports, such as skiing and sailing. Houseboat rentals are popular on lakes Ouchita, Greeson, and DeGray. Other types of boats are also available to rent on all five lakes.

  • El Dorado

El Dorado is a town built on an oil boom. Examples of original and restored 1920s and '30s architecture, including the art deco Rialto Theatre, abound in the downtown area where shopping, dining, and cultural venues mingle with commerce. Forests surround the town, population 22,000. The town hosts a variety of festivals each year. Natural diversions in the area include the South Arkansas Arboretum. The Ouachita River and Calion Lake offer additional boating and fishing opportunities.

  • Hot Springs

Since the 1800s Hot Springs has been known for the relaxing and restorative thermal waters of its 47 springs. This spa resort town, population 36,000, in southwestern Arkansas has earned a reputation as the state's top vacation spot. Along with a thriving spa-based industry, the city is a popular shopping, dining, arts, music and outdoor adventure destination. The centerpiece of the city is downtown where Bathhouse Row, a section of historic bathhouses and a part of the Hot Springs National Park, mixes with art galleries, shops and restaurants.

  • Hot Springs National Park

Hot Springs National Park preserves the hot springs and bathhouses which have made Hot Springs, Arkansas a destination for travelers and relief seekers for more than 200 years. The park protects 47 hot springs and eight historic bathhouses along an area called Bathhouse Row in downtown Hot Springs. The park also offers scenic drives, day-use hiking, picnicking and camping in the Ouchita Mountains.

  • Little Rock

State capital Little Rock and neighboring city North Little Rock make up the largest metro area in Arkansas with a combined population of 500,000. The river city's central location makes it an industrial and commercial hub for the state. A mix of small town friendliness and big city spirit make it a popular travel destination. Big city life is balanced by outdoor activities.
