Arkansas Eats

Description

Arkansas might be considered a Southern state officially, but work your way through a few lunches in Little Rock and it will become quite clear that when it comes to cuisine, the scene is clearly international, from Greek to Italian via Thai and Brazilian. It is, however, equally easy to find a restaurant serving up traditional Arkansan fare, whether you’re a hungry traveler in search of catfish and po-boys or flavorful barbeque, gumbo and fried pie, grits optional. Time it right and you can even get test out the crawfish catch at the annual Dermott Crawfish Festival set in Dermott, southeast of Little Rock.

For those interested in exploring the state’s agricultural scope, the best solution is a detour through a Certified Arkansas Farmer’s Market, where all comestibles sold are grown or produced in-state. Seasonally look for juicy watermelons, sweet peaches, crisp apples, strawberries and pink tomatoes, as well as a selection of meats from beef to lamb and poultry.
