Some of the state's most pristine wilderness areas are located in the Ouachita Mountains. Covering much of the southwestern part of Arkansas--and extending to part of the central portion—the Ouachitas are heavily forested and graced with rivers and streams.
Elegant Diamante Golf Course at Hot Springs Village was ranked fourth in the country by Golf Digest magazine among new golf courses opened in 1995. Designed by Ault and Associates, Diamante is one of the longest golf courses in the state at 7,500 yards.
But Diamante is not all the golf talk in these ancient, wooded hills of the Ouachita Mountains. From the famous resort city of Hot Springs National Park to the beautiful countryside surrounding the five crystal-clear Diamond Lakes, the Ouachitas glitter with exciting golf venues.
There's plenty more to talk about at Hot Springs, including six more regal golf courses at Hot Springs Village alone. Golf Digest has recognized the Ponce De Leon Course at the Village as among the top 100 courses in the country. Belvedere Country Club, Hot Springs Country Club's Arlington Course (renovated by Ben Crenshaw) and Diamondhead Country Club round out a generous offering of Hot Springs' full-course lay-outs. For a quick round, Essex Park Golf Course, a nine-hole layout, is built around Lake Catherine with two of its holes featuring full water carries to the greens.
