  • Bull Shoals Lake / White River

Bull Shoals Lake is located in the Ozark Mountain range in north central Arkansas. Bull Shoals is a clear 45,000-acre lake with a forested shoreline. Its tailwater the White River is Arkansas' largest river. In springtime, the lake and river are framed by flowering dogwood and redbud trees, in fall, turning leaves provide a colorful display. The lake is a popular spot for water sports and houseboating. Bull Shoals and the White River are both record-holding fishing venues.

Eureka Springs, population 2,000, is an Ozark Mountains resort town with a European feel. The city became a premiere relaxation resort in the late 19th century when people visited the area seeking restorative water from the "Great Healing Spring." Most of the original Victorian architecture from this time is preserved and the entire downtown commercial district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The view from atop Sugar Loaf Mountain, an island peak in the middle of the lake, is worth the hike. Fall is a beautiful time to visit.
