The museum is a collecting institution that acquires and stores artifacts relevant to the museum's purpose of educating in the sciences, social sciences and technology. It contains approximately 14,000 artifacts, which fall into two major categories: Life/Earth Science and Anthropological/Historical objects. One of the most popular permanent exhibits is the Ottenheimer Theater Big Electric Show, a 45-minute program on the wonders of the electromagnetic world.
